Next Generation Meets the Council of Europe

Highlights from the 14th Eastern European Academy for Social Democracy

From June 22 to 27, 2025, the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Regional Office “Dialogue Eastern Europe” hosted the 14th Eastern European Academy for Social Democracy in Strasbourg, France, under the title “All Eyes on the Council of Europe!”. The Academy brought together 22 young professionals from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, and Germany, working in politics, civil society, academia, and media.

Why the Council of Europe?
As the oldest pan-European institution, the Council of Europe plays a vital role in safeguarding democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. The Academy addressed the question of how the CoE remains relevant to EaP countries today, and what tools it offers to support democratic transition, civic resilience, and regional cooperation.

Participants engaged in hands-on learning about the CoE’s structure, priorities, and influence on member and partner states alike. The program fostered both critical reflection and practical understanding of European-level policymaking.

Empowering Future Change-Makers
More than just a seminar, the Academy created a space for connection, shared learning, and long-term cooperation. Participants exchanged experiences, discussed democratic development in their countries, and built cross-border networks for future collaboration.

Looking Ahead
The 14th Eastern European Academy for Social Democracy served as a platform for strengthening democratic values and promoting inclusive dialogue between young leaders from across the region. We thank all participants, speakers, and partners who helped make this edition a success!
